The cultured cells are cryopreserved in the department following standard operating protocol and stored in liquid nitrogen. These cells are being used for treatment of severe graft versus host disease is a clinical trial.
Mouse Mesenchymal Stromal Cells isolation and expansion is also being done in the department as part of research in collaboration with other departments in CMC. This is done in routine laboratory conditions.

Cryopreservation is the process in which cells especially stem cells are treated through a series of steps and are stored in liquid nitrogen at a temperature of -196ºC. These cells upon requirement are transplanted back in to patients after appropriate conditioning regimens have been administered.
