Molecular diagnostic labs have increased in number but the qualified personnel to run the laboratories are limited and training programs are inadequate. To address this need, this two year course was started in 2009. This course is designed to provide a foundation in molecular genetics of hematological disorders. The theory covers the basic concepts and principles of molecular genetics. The laboratory component focuses on hands on training in techniques integral to current developments in molecular genetics.
By the end of this course the person will have the ability to supervise and direct the operations of a clinical molecular diagnostic laboratory, technical experience and knowledge in quality control and quality assurance procedures, diagnostic and interpretive skills in a wide range of clinical molecular genetics and the ability to develop hypothesis and develop experiments in a research project
